Free DME & DFIR Resources

There is more Digital & Multimedia Evidence (DME) than any other type of evidence today.
Working together we've expedited tens of thousands of criminal investigations.  Learn more

I probably should’ve just dropped the mic after the last post, but we’re going to continue on. I’m not one for dropping names, and in this case I don’t have to either. Everyone has gotten this wrong at some point, and I mean everyone. The people working on related standards; the people making the world’s leading non-linear professional editing systems; the people who make a living professionally processing and transcoding video; the people making multimedia playback software; the people making DCCTV systems; the people making operating systems; and yes, even forensic video and digital evidence technicians and analysts. We’re all human, my friends. It is a long, convoluted, complex process with its very foundation based on sampling an analog signal.

The FREE Windows File Recovery app is in the news again this week, with The Verge, ZDNet and others reporting on this "new" utility/tool.

Although it's not "new", as it was released in January, you likely haven't had a version of their OS that can run it until recently, unless you're an insider or developer. It is command line tool, but pretty simple to use (think PhotoRec/TestDisk). It can be used to recover from internal drives, HDD or SSD drives, cameras, USB and flash card storage. You'll need Win 10 version 19041.0 or higher.

It's been a very interesting and exciting year for Magnet Forensics.  New products, new acquisitions, new training opportunities, more awards & industry recognition, and still so many exciting things to come!  Don't miss the Magnet User Summit 2024, being held in Nashville, TN April 15th through 17th, 2024.  Be sure to also check out the pre-conference training opportunities.

First night home last night after an amazing week of training and peer networking at LEVA 2015. Slept like a baby! So great to get a few moments with so many of you, it was really kind of emotionally & intellectually draining! lol

Thanks everyone for your valuable time with us during the event! Hope to see you all again sooner, rather than latter. ;) All the best, LC

I recently completed an upgrade of our DCCTV Wiki and wanted to announce some significant changes that I've implemented. First and foremost, the Wiki is no longer a private members-only resource. Effective immediately, I have also migrated DME Resources and the Wiki to a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License.

Previously the Wiki was only available to our over 1,800 verified Professional Community members. Interested parties that do not meet our Professional Community membership requirements are now welcome to participate in the DCCTV Wiki.

A touch screen, touch mouse, touch pad, but no touch keyboard? Seriously? Hey Microsoft (& others), I think you missed the forrest because of all of the trees.

It's simple really: why move my hands from the keyboard to further interact when I shouldn't have to? Let's place a small touch area in the keyboard right beneath the space bar, where it can be accessed by the user's thumbs as they type.

Any actual products born from this idea shall donate 50% of their profits to a reputable charity. You're welcome.

All Heart - Sending Love

I realized the acronym after I typed the title. Catchy, although suddenly I need to use the restroom.

Seriously though, buckle down. We will get through this. No need to be a fanatic prick, though.

Help others, when you can. Maybe that's just a smile, wink or pat on the a**. Who knows, but I can tell you the latter may be problematic, so stick with the first two...unless you receive a specific request.

Spread love. It's still okay to do that. In fact, I think it's required.

You're going to see some amazing changes for the better, I'm pretty sure of it.

It may not be easy, it may not always be fun, you will likely have days where you're wondering why you still even bother.

Don't make me smack you on the a**.

I will, but I prefer not to unless specifically requested. ?

Make it a great day my friends! Sending ❤

We've already been hands-on with NVIDIA's first Kepler GPU, but all those fancy features count for nuthin' if the benchmarks don't back them up. So do they? Huh? Do they? NVIDIA told us to expect a 10 to 40 percent performance boost from the $499 GTX 680, versus AMD's pricier Radeon HD 7970, and it appears that was no exaggeration.

This really should come as no surprise to folks in our industry, as Apple's support of QuickTime on Windows has waned over many years. It's also important to understand that I.T. is going to take a global approach to the new vulnerabilities, and will likely force removal of QuickTime from all hosts they control/manage. Your job, should you choose to accept it, is to explain to them why you are an exception, and to learn more about the available options and solutions to address your environment and needs. There are options.
