Earlier this year I started my own DME & IT consulting business, and on November 1st I will be launching my new business portal DMEresources.com.
I've been trying to find time to post a note about last week's LEVA conference since I got back, but have just been overwhelmed with the ever expanding to-do list. It was really great seeing a lot of long time friends and colleagues and getting a chance to learn and network with them again. The entire event seemed to go flawlessly, as always, in large part due to the tireless efforts of the LEVA volunteers (e.g. board & officers).
I'm looking to pick up an HD camcorder disguised as a contact lens which accepts microSD behind my earlobe, but I'm not finding anything. Go figure. Until then, I'm thinking of picking up an HD pocket camcorder. You know, something the size of the Flip but in HD.
Still image capability isn't that important to me for this thing, but I would like decent 720p HD video under various typical lighting conditions (e.g. nothing extreme). SDHC storage would be ideal.
To be honest I was thinking a fully decked out RED rig until my wife walked by, shook her head and smiled. I don't think she even knew that I started my search looking for a sub $300 pocket camcorder, and ended up looking at a camera rig that would cost about as much as our last car. What I can say is that I'm pretty sure she was thinking "I dare you, you silly little man." 😄
A new imaging system could use opaque walls, doors or floors as 'mirrors' to gather information about scenes outside its line of sight.
Xbox 360 vs. PS3. There's no question that the real battle in the HD home theater space will be decided predominately by these two gaming platforms. With the PS3 launch just a week away, very few movies available in either format and the sticker price of the stand-alone players in either format, it all boils down to this. Microsoft and Sony have known it for a few years now, which is why they've each bet the bank and called in solids from all their homies.
Personally, I think HD-DVD and Xbox 360 have the advantage, even though their HD-DVD drive was just released. While many in the industry gripe about the fact that Microsoft didn't embed the HD-DVD capability in their console, I think it was a wise move. The consoles were out on the market at an affordable price a year ahead of the competition, and the $200 price tag for an HD-DVD player is a steal compared to either format's stand-alone players.

Consider this: If the DOJ forces Apple to create a new method to access this data in JUST this case, more than one Apple employee will need to be intimately familiar with it. It will need to be well documented, and protected by the very same US Federal Government privacy and security rules and regulations the DOJ is asking Apple to breach (think HIPAA, etc). Cool, Apple can do that, they have been more than helpful putting policies and procedures in place to accommodate government access legally from day one.

Apple boasts that its just-released OS X 10.7 operating system (codenamed Lion) includes over 250 new features. While the marquee features make Mac desktops and notebooks a little more like the iPad, there's far more than that. Some of the improvements make QuickTime more usable.
Moments ago, I completed several updates and upgrades to the Media-Geek community. While most of them where behind the scenes type of stuff, there were some new features introduced that members might find interesting, such as:

I just returned from another great week of DME training at our office out on the east coast last week. One of the themes I've come to recognize through my travels teaching the fundamentals of DME Processing, is that even some of the most seasoned technicians and analysts don’t really understand the significance of hardware to accurate and proper processing of DME. It’s completely understandable why, given the marketing messages of some DME vendors, the fact that we're all constantly asked to do more with less, and the rate of related technological advancements.
I just wanted to thank all who attended, planned and supported the LEVA 2011 Training Conference. I truly enjoyed the training and community discussion sessions. It was great seeing everybody and meeting new peers, and in hindsight only wish I could have stayed for the evening events and more peer networking. As always, I truly look forward to next time.
