Free DME & DFIR Resources

There is more Digital & Multimedia Evidence (DME) than any other type of evidence today.
Working together we've expedited tens of thousands of criminal investigations. Learn more

Two new features introduced this week allow members to easily share their profile with non-members, should they so choose.  Members can now choose if they'd like to allow non-members to view their profile by editing their profile options; the default is set to not allow non-members to view your profile.

Additionally, members can now create their own custom URL to their profile page.  The custom URL can be set right from the member's profile page, and can be changed to whatever you like (e.g. http://www.media-geek.com/larryc will bring visitors directly to my profile, which I've set to allow public view).  Furthermore, members can now choose as to whether they want visitors to their profile to be able to view their personal files/images via the associated settings tab when editing your profile.

Ocean Systems will be providing a free 3-hour seminar entitled "From Acquisition to Prosecution: Understanding the Value & Challenges of Digital Video Evidence" on December 8th in Miami, FL. This free seminar provides helpful information for all of those involved in the digital video evidence chain, too include prosecutors, law enforcement command staff, first responders, support staff, as well as technicians and analysts.

Imagine the following scenario:
You're the first responding officer to a crime scene and have just completed taking the victim's statement. You then tell the victim you have to leave for another call. Before you go you politely ask the victim to take photos of the scene and their injuries, collect all of the DNA and fingerprint evidence, and note that you'll either be back later in the day or maybe tomorrow or the next day to pick it all up. You note that they can just leave the evidence at the front desk for you.

This is exactly how many agencies have chosen to deal with the overwhelming amount of DCCTV evidence available to them today. "Oh, there's video? Okay, have someone export it and we'll come back to pick it up."

The Adobe Creative Suite 6 software is now available, where it will include a range of new and powerful releases such as Photoshop, InDesign, lllustrator, Dreamweaver, Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Flash Professional as well as other products. Not only that, there are four suite versions to choose from – Creative Suite 6 Design & Web Premium; Creative Suite 6 Design Standard; Creative Suite 6 Production Premium; and Creative Suite 6 Master Collection.

The new Xbox 360 dashboard released earlier this week is a total overhaul with a bunch of new features, most notably the on-demand streaming HD video via Netflix. Yeah, the new design layout is "cool", the new Wii like avatars are neat, the Xbox LIVE Party feature somewhat interesting, copying complete games to your hard drive could be handy, yada, yada, yada. The Netflix integration and partnership is definitely the new killer ap for the Xbox, and quite possibly a saving grace for Netflix.

I’m excited to announce that I’ll be attending this year’s 100th IAI Educational Conference in Sacramento, CA. This year’s conference is anticipated to be one of the largest, as it’s the IAI’s Centennial event. I will be there representing my employer, Ocean Systems, and we will be showcasing our latest Digital & Multimedia Evidence (DME) solutions in the event's Exhibit Hall.

For more information about the event visit the IAI 100th International Educational Conference web site. Hope to see you there!

Booked my travel yesterday for next month’s DVR Assessment & Video Recovery course at the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office in Kissimmee, FL. This 3-Day course is designed for anyone who is doing digital video evidence recovery from DCCTV systems, from those brand new to the field to Certified Forensic Video Analysts with several years of experience.

Snow on the ground again this morning here in the pacific northwest, and looking at the pictures for the hotel options in Orlando made me anxious. ;) Hope to see you in class!

Wrapping up my weekend and feeling pretty good about the things I ticked off my internal, MFT-like to-do list. Implemented SSL encryption for the new LEVA website, integrated Authorize.net secure payment processing on the new LEVA site, and I put the finishing touches on several of the pieces for this week’s DCCTV recovery training in Tacoma, WA.

I probably won’t be posting here much this week, but you can’t shut me up on Facebook and Twitter, because I share to those while reading my news and researching (i.e. always). It is now an instinctual process and, thanks to those of you who occasionally send feedback, one that makes me feel good. No cute animal pics though; I share those to my personal Facebook friends, because animals are cute…but not really related to digital & multimedia evidence.

Okay, done rambling. Hope you had a great weekend my friends, and here’s to another week of doing what we love. Be safe out there. All the best.

$5.00/gallon? $10.00/gallon? Maybe Web meetings will be more socially acceptable in the business world when gas prices have completely crippled our economy and there's practically no such thing as a small business anymore. I, for one, certainly hope we don't have to wait and see.

Online meeting services are certainly nothing new, yet every time gas prices reach a new high they're all the buzz, and rightfully so. Unfortunately, after a few months of feeling like you're being robbed at the pump, they seem to slip off the to-do list for most. Why is that?

You don't need to own a Ring device, and no subscription fees for just their neighborhood service. See alerts from Ring users in whatever size area you'd like. View a newsfeed for your area or a map, and customize your alerts. Three suspicious events reported within a 3 mile radius from me within the last month, and one crime at a Ring user's next-door neighbor.

Today, after nearly fifteen years of developing personal & business Web sites, I'm launcing Media-Geek.com. While Media-Geek.com will certainly serve as the successor to my personal business site (larrycompton.com) and I am always excited when deploying a new site or layout, I am even more excited about the community-based functionality that is to come.

I should point out that this is a pre-launch of Media-Geek.com, which allows me the opportunity to test the various components and functionality in the exact environment where it will be fully deployed.  All of the content from my previous site(s), as well as a ton of additional functionality will be published with the official launch.  While there won't be any parades, balloons, or free donuts, the official launch is scheduled for Monday, February 11th.   Thanks for visiting...stay tuned!  😎
