It's Saturday afternoon and I'm in the lab today working on the cellular phone of the suspect from yesterday's tragic mass murder here in Binghamton, NY.   While waiting for the device to image I wanted to take a quick moment to thank those from the Media-Geek community who've reached out to me and my family since the tragic events began unfolding yesterday morning.   

An oldie but a goodie, IMHO.

Kind of like the frames of my glasses, which were referred to as "birth control" glasses when I was in the military. ?

This isn't breaking news by any means, but hopefully some may find it helpful.

Adobe CC 2015 Removes Prior Versions by Default

Before you click the Update button to install the new CC 2015 version of your Adobe application, consider whether you want to keep the prior version installed first. By default the new Creative Cloud installer will remove prior versions.

To keep your prior version installed, click "Update" and then select "Advanced Options" to expand the window. De-select "Remove old versions", then click "Update" to start the process.

Turns out, pretty damn fast. Way faster than I would, on anything, let alone a croch rocket.

Many of my favorite memories of my time in Broome County involve Harry. Like when he and I where taking hang gliding classes together in the evenings, and those dark & early morning hours on the weekend.

My favorite though was almost dying with him, which I would gladly do to this day, if given an option of how to go out. We were riding motorcycles. Enough said.

Okay, maybe not enough. You should know that my career as an amateur daredevil started very young. I began riding our Honda 50 at 5 years old, and just kept trying to think of more spectacular ways to nearly kill myself from then on.

Harry has me beat. Hands down.

Our Executive office spoke with Harry about us riding motorcycles together, taking hang gliding lessons together, etcetera.  Thier comment to him was:

"There's a reason the President & the Vice President don't ride in the same vehicle together, Harry."

The Association for Forensic Multimedia Analysis (AFMA) hosted a meeting & conference call on September 19th relating to further development of this new, independent organization for Video, Audio and Image Analysts. Over thirty industry professionals participated in the event, and discussion topics included such things as the organization's scope, purpose, and future direction. FFmpeg is a great tool to have in your toolbox if you’re a multimedia geek. If you live mostly in the world of Microsoft Windows and have dozens, hundreds, or thousands of files to process though they lose a little luster. Sure, there are tons of free applications built on FFmpeg that provide some limited batch processing capability, but usually they're just that; limited. Here’s a simple way you can process hundreds of files from one format to another, using the full capability of your FFmpeg install.

First, which scripting languages do you know? Great, we won’t need those, but that’s really cool that you know them. Given that you’re reading this, I’m going to assume you can write plain text into a text file. I don’t like to assume anything, but I’m feeling pretty good about that one. Alright, let’s get started.

I recently posted another brief tutorial for Media-Geek.com members which gives a quick overview of the various options and settings related to sharing your profile and content with non-members.  Topics briefly discussed in this tutorial include your profile URL, availability settings for your profile and storage space, as well as the new profile "badge" and invitation features.

SSD enthusiasts know all about SLC, MLC, and TLC, but there are some new acronyms in SSD town: V-NAND and CTF. Samsung announced in a press release last night that it has begun mass production of "3D Vertical NAND," a type of flash that it claims overcomes the existing limits on the design and production of existing NAND types.
