Adobe has published a security advisory in response to a critical flaw found in Flash Player. The vulnerability affects Flash Player for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Solaris, and Android, and also impacts the authplay.dll component included in Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader X.
Adobe's primary tool for tweaking and organizing photos was always destined to be part of the Creative Cloud offering, but for whatever reason it didn't make it in time for launch. As of today though, Lightroom 4 is available to download on PC or 64-bit Mac (or both, since you're allowed multiple installations) as part of a CS6 monthly license.
The Scientific Working Group on Imaging Technology (SWGIT - www.swgit.org) has released a new DRAFT document that is open for public comment until September 14, Best Practices for the Analysis of Digital Video Recorders.
The new Media-Geek site layout is more intuitive (I hope) and accessible, and it should also load faster in your browser. Sure there are a few little scripting bugs to hunt down and squash, but for the most part the site seems to be functioning in all modern browsers. I hope you find the new layout an improvement.
Did you know you can make your profile public? By default profiles are private and only accessible to members who are logged in to the site, but if you want you can make yours available to the general public. Check out your profile privacy settings more (Click on Community to go to the Community main page, then select "Privacy" from the Profile menu option.
It's Saturday afternoon and I'm in the lab today working on the cellular phone of the suspect from yesterday's tragic mass murder here in Binghamton, NY. A brand new LEVA course has been designed by and will be taught by two highly respected members of the FVA community: George Reis and Jimmy Schroering. Lots of fuss in the news lately about Smartphone encryption and 2 Factor Authentication (2FA). Maybe it's just me, but where have these people been the last decade or so? Smartphone encryption isn't new, it's just become more popular and convenient. Heck, chances are if your Android smartphone is less than 3 years old you already have the capability; it's just not turned on by default. But hey, Apple is going to provide it now too. Everybody panic!

I've used everything from freeware tools to high-end encoders to accomplish various audio & video trans-coding tasks over the last 15 years or so, and when time permits, I love testing out new tools. Recently, when installing software on to a new PC, I decided to try another low-cost solution that's been around for quite some time, but I've never used; AVS Video Converter.

The last three or four weeks I have been absolutely swamped, and unfortunately have had little time to contribute to the Media-Geek community. Despite my schedule others have kept things moving forward by adding articles and other content, and new members continue to join almost daily as the word spreads about our shared resource. Although there are many things on my to-do list for Media-Geek regarding further development and maintenance, as well as several articles and blog posts I've been meaning to write, this weekend I spent some time doing a little Spring cleaning.
Initially I intended to spend a few hours addressing some maintenance tasks and reorganizing menus to simplify navigation. Before it was all said and done I had spent nearly my entire weekend completely re-designing the site. Go figure. Anyway, along the way I made a few notable changes that are worth mentioning.
